We moved to a small town called Wabamun in April this year. We have been christians for a few years, but my husband and I have never had the volume of opportunity to share Christ that we've had here. Almost immediately after moving in, our neighbours seemed to be drawn to us. Our house quickly became "the" hangout spot for the neighbourhood kids and stay at home moms. And the questions!! People on this little street started asking Dave and I about God, Jesus and the whole deal. Dave has wanted to run an Alpha course out of our home for a year, and we finally agreed that this is the right time and place. We both feel that we have been moved smack in the middle of our mission field. On the first night we fed 31 people, including the kids. There are about 15 adults who participate in the Alpha course, and we have activities lined up for the children so their parents are free to focus and learn. The love I feel for these people can only be described as a God-thing, and week by week I can see that their hearts are slowly and gently being wooed by Jesus. One of my new friends actually told me the other day that she said the salvation prayer! God is here!! An integral part of the Alpha course is the weekend retreat, which we're geared up to do on August 13, 14, 15 at Rundle's Mission. It's a weekend of fellowship, worship and hopefully for my friends, having a personal encounter with the Holy Spirit. I'm telling you this because I believe it's the preamble to several lifesaving experiences for our neighbours and their children. I'll keep you posted ;) P.S- know any worship artists that could use a free retreat? y'know, leading our worship times in exchange for free accomodation and home-cooked meals? I'm only half-kidding;) God bless, and thanks for all you do; yours is the only station I listen to.
